Sales Training on "A Relationship Universe"

Sales Training on Creating a Relationship Universe

After years of sales training, I started to educate myself on positive thinking, sales and self improvement.  One of the first audio tapes I listened to was by aCrowd of people professional salesman named Joe Girard.  Joe had become very successful in automobile sales and was very well known in that industry.  I remember listening to Joe and hearing the genuine enthusiasm in his voice as he talked about his love for people.  He talked about how he liked to create an atmosphere where people would literally line up at the door of the car dealership just to buy a car from him!  At the time, I remember having two thoughts:  1) "Yeah, right!", and 2) "Just how long does it take to get to that point?"

The things that Joe Girard did were unheard of at the time.  He would go to the Chicago Cubs baseball games and every Chicago home run, he would throw his business cards in the air like confetti.  Press caught wind of this and ran stories in the paper reading, “Car Salesman Throws Business Cards at Baseball Games.”  Joe talked about how other sales people at the dealership would arrive late to work, never stay late and never work with that last minute customer before closing.  Joe’s sales philosophy was different than most.  His philosophy revolved around helping people, having a true love for sales and great work ethic.

Learning about Joe fifteen years ago made a huge impact on my thoughts surrounding sales and my own philosophy on life.  Over the course of my own sales training, I worked diligently on creating what I call “A Relationship Universe”.  In a Relationship Universe, I believe that you are constantly looking out for others best interest and Picture of overflowing water glassmaking sure that your good name is associated with everything you do (in an integral and humble way).  As you work and live with integrity and honesty, you will be filling an imaginary pot with your good name and goodwill.  In time you will begin to overflow this pot.  The more you continue to live and work within this philosophy, the more you will overflow that pot!

The result of this philosophy on building a "Relationship Universe"  for me, is an abundance of referral calls, a day that doesn’t go by without a customer contacting me for help, and on top of that, a sense of accomplishment and purpose.  Joe Girard knew this and lived it...and so do I.
