What Makes People Interesting?

Yahoo asked their site visitors, "What makes people interesting".  Here are some of the popular answers:
  • "The most attractive part of a persona that would make them interesting is their thinking, the way they talk, react, and handle things".
  • "It is the mind of the people, when revealed, that makes them interesting."
  • "Basically someone who is different than what you're used to everyone else being".
  • "An interesting person possesses unique personality."
  • "It is your own interest that makes people interesting."

In general, most people find other people interesting.  Perhaps that is why people have been studying people for years and years, sometimes called personology.  The study of people's mind and behavior is known as psychology.  What makes us who we are?  How did we become the kind of people we are today?  Why do we behave the way that we do?  Does nature or nurture have more influence on us?  Can people change or do they stay the same?  Why do we make the decisions that we do?  What drives us to succeed in life?  What drives us to fail?

Psychologists, physicians, researchers and scientific professionals are continually observing, studying, measuring and testing people to arrive at some conclusion these questions.  They propose personality theories based on their scientific findings in the hopes of advancing our general knowledge and understanding of people.  They have been doing this for centuries past and, more than likely, centuries to come.

"When science finally locates the center of the universe,
some people will be surprised to learn they're not it."  - Bernard Bailey

"The only way to amuse some people is to slip and fall on icy pavement."  - Edgar Watson Howe, American Editor, Novelists and Essayist

"Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure."  - Napolean Hill, American Author

When we work closely with people in sales and business professions, we will see more success when we understanding people.  We can't possible get to know the intricate details that make a person who they are, but their behavior and actions can help us make an educated guess on their type of personality.  Then, based on their personality type, we can tailor our sales presentation to them.
